Calling All Canadian Educators and Teaching Artists

We have heard it again and again from Canadian theatre practitioners….

I have developed this amazing theatre script that would be perfect for use in theatrical arts education… I have workshoped it or even full-on produceded it with great success within the community but now what can I do with it…. who will look at it… how can this be highlighted and celebrated. With over 2000 schools and professional theatre company youth education divisions Canada has a market that can support more materials developed specifically for this TYP (theatre for young performers) genre.

At TAEA we have wonderful relationships with the best agents, licencing houses and publishers across Canada and Internationally. We want to use these relationships to highlight Canadian voices in a win-win that sees more Canadian work being published, licenced and produced both nationally and internationally. Once submitted we will review and highlight your material to select partners who are looking for more good quality Canadian educational theatre content in their libraries. TAEA will be advocating on your behalf and working to build a platform for our Canadian voices to be elevated. If your script generates interest and gets published we will highlight it across our national network of teachers, artists, university professors and Canadian theatre companies with youth educational theatre divisions.

This is a free service provided by the National Arts Service Organization TAEA for its member artists, teaching artists and educators developing these works. If you are an active TAEA Professional Member (Artist or Educator) you are able to submit one full length play, one-act play or musical per year. Additional scripts can be submitted at a cost of $25 per script.

Please carefully review the guidelines below…

We seek plays that:

– Are written for high-school performers and appropriate for teenage audiences by Canadian Artists

– One-Act Plays, Full Length Plays, and Musicals are welcome

– Large Cast plays that can maximise youth participation and learning are highly encouraged

Please be prepared to provide the following below, or via email:

– Name and contact information

– A PDF of your play

– Musical materials if applicable

– A brief synopsis (up to 250 words)

– An artistic statement or short bio

– Production history (if applicable)

– Production photographs (if available)

– Misc. submission notes
