Every year, thousands of students across Canada take the stage at a STAR Festival: adjudicated theatre festivals where Troupes perform, get professional feedback, and work toward the honours and scholarship opportunities. Whichever stage your students are ready for, there’s a festival for them.
Regional STAR Festivals
The starting point for most Schools & Troupes. Regional festivals run across the country each fall and winter, close to home, and are the most accessible way to get your students performing and adjudicated for the first time. And if there isn’t a physical festival near you, we also have an Online Regional for schools anywhere in the world looking to participate! [Link: Regional STAR Festivals]
Provincial DramaFests
Manitoba and Quebec host their own province-wide festivals: the Manitoba Youth DramaFest and the Quebec Youth DramaFest. These bring together Troupes from across each province for a dedicated provincial celebration of student theatre. [Link: Manitoba Youth DramaFest] [Link: Quebec Youth DramaFest]
National STAR Fest
The pinnacle of the STAR Festival season. Held each May across five regions (West, Central, South, East, and Atlantic), National STAR Fest brings the country’s schools and Troupes together for performances, workshops, and TAEA’s scholarship auditions, where over $2 million was awarded to students last year alone.
