Keynote Conversation: Building the Future of Canadian Theatre

Join Lisa Rubin, Artistic and Executive Director of Montreal’s Segal Centre for Performing Arts, for a facilitated conversation exploring Canadian theatre, artistic leadership, and the important role drama educators play in developing the next generation of artists and audiences.

Drawing on Lisa’s experience as an artistic director, director, performer, and champion of new Canadian work, the conversation will explore how professional theatre is evolving, whose stories are being told on our stages, how theatres can build meaningful connections with young people and communities, and what skills and experiences emerging theatre artists need today.

Designed specifically for drama and theatre educators, this engaging keynote conversation will connect the professional theatre world with the work happening every day in Canadian classrooms. The session will conclude with an opportunity for teachers to ask questions and join the conversation.

Directing Techniques (Bilingual)

Amanda Kellock

Explore practical approaches to directing that help actors make stronger choices and help scenes become clearer, more dynamic, and more connected. In this workshop, Amanda Kellock will share techniques for working with actors on objectives, relationships, blocking, rhythm, staging, and ensemble storytelling. Participants will examine ways to communicate effectively in rehearsal, ask productive questions, shape performances without over-directing, and create a rehearsal room where actors feel both supported and challenged. Teachers will leave with adaptable directing tools they can use in school productions, scene work, and classroom performance projects.
