Michel E. Rafie
Michel E. Rafie brings decades of experience in cultural leadership, institutional transformation, private financing and strategic public affairs. His involvement in arts education includes his influential work at the National Theatre School of Canada, where he helped modernize the institution’s approach to outreach and community engagement. Recognized for his pivotal role in establishing the Montreal Science Centre, Igloofest and other public initiatives, and for steering significant transformations across multiple cultural and nonprofit organizations, he now contributes this broad expertise to strengthening the Association’s national mandate.
Michel E. Rafie apporte des décennies d’expérience en leadership culturel, en transformation institutionnelle, en financement privé et en affaires publiques stratégiques. Son engagement dans l’éducation artistique comprend son travail influent à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada, où il a contribué à moderniser l’approche de l’institution en matière de sensibilisation et d’engagement communautaire. Yvette Dudley-Neuman
Yvette Dudley-Neuman is an actor, singer, writer, and educator with decades of experience in professional and educational theatre. A University of Calgary graduate (BFA/BEd), she brings an artist-centred approach that balances high standards with encouragement and practical insight. She has adjudicated for the Sears BC Drama Festival, METFest, the Surrey High School Zone Festival, Regional/National STARFests, and the Theatre BC North Island Zone Festival. Yvette is eager to bring her experience and commitment to mentorship, arts education, and community-building to the TAEA Board.

Yvette Dudley-Neuman est comédienne, chanteuse, auteure et pédagogue, forte de plusieurs décennies d’expérience dans le théâtre professionnel et scolaire. Diplômée de l’Université de Calgary (BFA/BEd), elle privilégie une approche centrée sur l’artiste, alliant exigence, encouragement et vision pratique. Elle a été membre du jury du Sears BC Drama Festival, du METFest, du Surrey High School Zone Festival, des STARFests régionaux et nationaux, ainsi que du Theatre BC North Island Zone Festival. Yvette souhaite vivement mettre son expérience et son engagement envers le mentorat, l’éducation artistique et le développement communautaire au service du conseil d’administration de la TAEA.
Melissa Bencic
Melissa is active as an arts educator, advocate, director, producer, dramaturg, adjudicator and consultant. Melissa is the Founder and Artistic Director of Bravo Academy (Toronto) where she has worked extensively for over 20 years developing innovative performing arts programs. Melissa has produced more than 250 musicals, and directed over 55 musicals and operas. She has a passion for new work and is the founder of New Musical Theatre Intensives (NMTI) where she develops and produces new Canadian musicals. Melissa was the Artistic Producer on the musicals Crack of Doom (2022) and Drama 101 (2018) which both won Patron’s Pick and played to sold out audiences at the Toronto Fringe Festival and most recently produced the new Canadian musical Predictable Holiday Rom-Com at Second City.
Melissa is dedicated to the growth and development of performing arts education. She works actively in the development of new Canadian musicals specifically written to be performed by young artists. Melissa is a member of a number of arts organizations, committees and associations both nationally and internationally where she is deeply committed to the innovation and growth of youth performing arts education.

Benjamin Pilger
Benjamin Pilger is a multi-disciplinary artist, curator and educator based on the ancestral territory of the Qayqayt people. He is the curator of the APT POP UP gallery based out of New Westminster a lighting /projection designer, drama teacher, actor, and performance artist.
Benjamin Pilger est un artiste multidisciplinaire, commissaire d’exposition et pédagogue originaire du territoire ancestral du peuple Qayqayt. Il est le commissaire de la galerie éphémère APT POP UP, située à New Westminster, et est également concepteur lumière et projection, professeur d’art dramatique, acteur et artiste de performance.
Darlene Briere
Darlene is the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Drama Association, beginning her career in this role in November 2003. Darlene received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Regina in l989 and her Master of Education in 1999. She has also received an Arts Administration Certificate from the Banff Centre School for Management in February 1994.
Darlene began her teaching career with Regina Public Schools. She then moved on to teach in the Arts Education Program at the Faculty of Education, University of Regina, where she taught arts education, drama education, and several other pre-service teacher education courses. She supervised hundreds of teacher pre-interns and interns, the part of her job she loved the most. Besides working at Sask Drama, Darlene’s many accomplishments include coordinating the “Celebrating Arts Education” event for several years at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in the early 2000s, coordinating and edited “Continuing Studies in the Arts” for the SSEA, provincial team leader for Art FX and Vic Cicansky units of study and workshops in Arts Education, and the publisher/editor for SDA’s Magazine of Student Written Plays “My Lines”.
Darlene was celebrated as an Arts Leader by Sask Arts on May 27, 2024, at their inaugural Arts of Celebration Experience. Darlene has been a pivotal leader for SDA for several years. Her passion and expertise in theatre, combined with her education, have helped lead SDA in achieving and promoting the growth and development of drama in Saskatchewan, as well as in fostering professional development across various aspects of theatre.
Darlene est directrice générale de la Saskatchewan Drama Association, poste qu’elle occupe depuis novembre 2003. Elle a obtenu son baccalauréat en éducation à l’Université de Regina en 1989 et sa maîtrise en éducation en 1999. Elle a également obtenu un certificat en administration des arts du Banff Centre School for Management en février 1994.
Darlene a débuté sa carrière d’enseignante dans les écoles publiques de Regina. Elle a ensuite enseigné au sein du programme d’éducation artistique de la Faculté d’éducation de l’Université de Regina, où elle a donné des cours d’éducation artistique, d’art dramatique et plusieurs autres cours de formation initiale des enseignants. Elle a supervisé des centaines de stagiaires et de pré-stagiaires, une partie de son travail qu’elle a particulièrement appréciée. Outre son travail à Sask Drama, Darlene a réalisé de nombreuses choses, notamment la coordination de l’événement « Célébrons l’éducation artistique » pendant plusieurs années à l’Assemblée législative de la Saskatchewan au début des années 2000, la coordination et la direction éditoriale du programme « Formation continue en arts » pour la SSEA, la direction de l’équipe provinciale pour les unités d’étude et les ateliers Art FX et Vic Cicansky en éducation artistique, ainsi que la publication et la direction de la revue de pièces de théâtre étudiantes de SDA, « My Lines ».
Le 27 mai 2024, Sask Arts a honoré Darlene en tant que leader artistique lors de la première édition de son événement « Arts of Celebration Experience ». Darlene est une figure de proue de SDA depuis plusieurs années. Sa passion et son expertise en théâtre, combinées à sa formation, ont permis à SDA de contribuer à la croissance et au développement du théâtre en Saskatchewan, ainsi qu’au perfectionnement professionnel dans divers domaines.
Trilby Jeeves
Trilby Jeeves is an actor, director, instructor, and writer from Vancouver and PEI. After studying at “Le Conservatoire d’Art Dramatique” in Quebec City, she went on to perform and direct in both languages across Canada. As well as performing up to 40 plays, including her own one woman show, “Dusty Shoes”, she has worked for 34 years off and on as a costumer/set supervisor in the theatre & film industry. For 16 years she has facilitated her Buffoonery Workshops for actors (VanArts & VFS) and for teambuilding in the private sector. Trilby also co-created directing workshops for those seeking to better direct actors. Her favourite sessions beyond Vancouver were in Puerto Rico, Shanghai, and Singapore. Supported by FilmPEI, Trilby also wrote and directed her first (award winning) short film, The Rolling Pin. For FilmPEI, she has also taught on camera
acting classes.
Currently, Trilby lives in Prince Edward Island where she is acting and writing, managing her family’s wooded property and taking care of her Mum and cat, Mister Milton.

En plus d’avoir interprété jusqu’à 40 pièces, dont son spectacle solo « Dusty Shoes », elle a travaillé pendant 34 ans, de façon intermittente, comme costumière et superviseuse de décors dans l’industrie du théâtre et du cinéma. Depuis 16 ans, elle anime des ateliers de bouffonnerie pour acteurs (VanArts et VFS) et des ateliers de consolidation d’équipe dans le secteur privé. Trilby a également co-créé des ateliers de mise en scène pour ceux qui souhaitent améliorer leurs compétences en direction d’acteurs. Ses ateliers préférés, en dehors de Vancouver, ont eu lieu à Porto Rico, à Shanghai et à Singapour. Avec le soutien de FilmPEI, Trilby a également écrit et réalisé son premier court métrage (primé), « The Rolling Pin ». Pour FilmPEI, elle a aussi donné des cours de jeu d’acteur devant la caméra.
Trilby vit actuellement à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard où elle est comédienne, scénariste, gère la propriété boisée familiale et prend soin de sa mère et de son chat, Monsieur Milton.

Craig Wrotniak
Craig Wrotniak is an arts administrator and educator with more than two decades of experience, bringing together a deep passion for educational theatre and extensive leadership in Canada’s non-profit sector. Based in British Columbia, Craig is an arts administrator, certified teacher and a professional member of IATSE. He leads a vibrant high school drama and theatrical arts program in Surrey, BC, where his work with youth artists has earned him multiple directing awards and wide recognition in the educational theatre community.
Craig holds a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Drama/Theatre from UBC and a Master of Arts in Theatre Production from CWU, grounding his practice in both pedagogical expertise and professional production training. His commitment to the growth of the Canadian theatre ecosystem spans the full spectrum of the sector: supporting teachers, teaching artists, designers, technicians, professional companies, post-secondary programs, and school-based theatre initiatives.
As the Founder and Executive Director of the Theatrical Arts Education Association (TAEA), Craig has been instrumental in building a nationwide movement that aims to strengthen and elevate theatrical arts in every region of Canada. He is driven by a belief that breaking down systemic barriers, expanding access, and championing arts education are essential to the future of Canadian theatre.
Craig Wrotniak est un administrateur artistique et un pédagogue cumulant plus de vingt ans d’expérience. Il allie une profonde passion pour le théâtre éducatif à une vaste expérience de leadership dans le secteur sans but lucratif canadien. Basé en Colombie-Britannique, Craig est administrateur artistique, enseignant certifié et membre professionnel de l’IATSE. Il dirige un programme dynamique d’art dramatique et de théâtre au secondaire à Surrey, en Colombie-Britannique, où son travail auprès de jeunes artistes lui a valu de nombreux prix de mise en scène et une large reconnaissance dans le milieu du théâtre éducatif.
Craig est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en éducation (art dramatique/théâtre) de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique (UBC) et d’une maîtrise en production théâtrale de l’Université de Calgary (CWU), ce qui lui confère une solide expertise pédagogique et une formation professionnelle en production. Son engagement envers le développement de l’écosystème théâtral canadien s’étend à l’ensemble du secteur : il soutient les enseignants, les artistes-enseignants, les concepteurs, les techniciens, les compagnies professionnelles, les programmes postsecondaires et les initiatives théâtrales scolaires.
En tant que fondateur et directeur général de l’Association pour l’éducation aux arts du théâtre (AEAT), Craig a joué un rôle déterminant dans la création d’un mouvement national visant à renforcer et à promouvoir les arts du théâtre dans toutes les régions du Canada. Il est animé par la conviction que l’élimination des obstacles systémiques, l’élargissement de l’accès et la promotion de l’éducation artistique sont essentiels à l’avenir du théâtre canadien.
